The media have been one of the most prolific promoters of awareness over global warming issues. This section touches the surface of views held and actions undertaken by some of the world's most famous and influential people in our collective contributions towards our global cause:

Cameron Diaz

"I've been driving a Prius since they came out," Diaz said. "I carbon neutralize when I travel... I recycle. If we can get people to change one aspect of their lives, even do one thing, that's a step closer."

Sir Richard Branson

Sir Richard Branson pledges to invest 100% of all future proceeds from Virgin's transportation businesses into tackling global warming over the next 10 years (estimated to be worth $3 billion). "We are very pleased today to be making a commitment to invest 100% of all future proceeds to the Virgin Group from our transportation interest, both our trains and airline businesses, into tackling global warming" said Branson.

Leonardo Di Caprio

Di Caprio has starred in a film centred around global warming, called the "11th Hour". He comments that in a previous film he has made, the global warming issue was droned out "by the inclusion of the contrary viewpoint" however Di Caprio feels that in the "11th Hour", "The message won't be diluted by our having to yell over oil-company-funded 'scientists" . Di Daprio in fact owns and runs four Toyota Prius cars, for both himself and his family. The Toyota Prius with its impressive fuel efficiency has scored many points with its 'green credentials' and has seen many celebrities make the switch.

Tony Blair British Prime Minister 1997- 2007

Mr Blair describes the threat from global warming as "....the world's greatest environmental challenge.....so far-reaching in its impact and irreversible in its destructive power, that it alters radically human existence."

Bill Clinton US President 1993-2001

"Global warming is a bigger threat than Terrorism said Clinton, "it's the only thing we face today that has the power to remove the preconditions of civilized society."

Kofi A. Annan, UN Secretary-General

"It is time for global action to address this global challenge".

Al Gore

Al Gore who once famously described himself as the ex next President of the USA is a most prolific campaigner for causes promoting global warming. He comments "....what changed in the US with Hurricane Katrina was a feeling that we have entered a period of consequences...". - Hurricane Katrina August 26th 2005

Sir David King, the government's chief scientist

"If we do not begin now, more substantial, more disruptive, and more expensive change will be needed later on." In Britain, the number of people at high risk of flooding was expected to more than double to nearly 3.5 million by 2080, Sir David said.

The Prince of Wales

Prince Charles sees climate change as the "greatest challenge to face man".

And in Conclusion......

With such incredible support for our planets future health and well being, tackling the factors causing global warming should be straight forward right? Well the fact is that governments around the world are taking actions to discourage energy inefficiencies through taxes and other means.

The effectiveness of such actions and also the source of re-investment from the extra revenues from 'green taxes' are debatable. Nevertheless these actions are all centred on influencing our actions, and who better to do that than ourselves!

Each one of us can make a difference, join Orlando Bloom and others to support the Global Cool campaign - 'one by one, ton by ton' we can reduce our carbon emissions and make the difference as responsible adults.
